Roof Rack Tent Platform

Both our 4runner and honda element racks are designed to carry anything from roof top tents to rotopax gas cans and max trax recovery devices.

Most rooftop tents are designed to mount to a traditional roof rack consisting of two bars that run in parallel. First you need to create a larger platform at the top of your vehicle using particle board and 2x4s and then mount this to the roof rack. The tent that pops out of the hardshell is a weatherproof. After some initial struggles we identified a mounting solution that allows us to mount our rooftop tent to the top of the pioneer platform.

In this video we mount 6 rigid led light pods to our toyota 4runner 5th gen adventure rack. The expandable skycamp clamshells opens with the top forming an angled section of roof wall and the bottom the platform for the mattress. Next you create a solid frame for the tent using a combination of 2x6s and 1x1s to customize the platform to your vehicle s roof rack. But the pioneer platform doesn t have this sort of arrangement.
